Moon in My Room was my first lockdown project. I had written a story as part of my degree show (many years ago) about a boy who couldn’t sleep and had always wanted to revisit it. So last March when the first lockdown was announced I decided the time had come.
My original story was quite dark, focussing on nightmares and things that go bump in the night, but I knew I wanted to take a more gentle approach. I wanted light open spaces, with an emphasis on calm. Dreams rather than nightmares, clouds and big open skies…with birds of course and a lovely friendly moon.
I hope to have the book available to buy later this year but while you’re waiting I thought I would show you a few of the illustrations.
“As the daylight disappears and the dark fills up my room, I lie beneath the covers and I wait to see the moon”.
